Chicago Gang Swing - Scarlett Sky
Chicago Gang Swing is what happens when old Chicago gets dressed for the evening and refuses to behave. There are South Side loyalties, blonde alibis, greenbacks changing hands under the table, cab wars treated like civic philosophy, and men in good hats making bad decisions with complete confidence.
The album moves through clubs, police files, whiskey glasses, prison ink, lakefront nights, and Clark Street at the hour when the city starts telling the truth by accident. Some songs borrow from real names and old history. Others invent their own trouble. All of them belong to the same Chicago: stylish, crooked, theatrical, amused with itself, and never entirely innocent.
Scarlett watches it all from somewhere between the spotlight and the case file. She knows a woman can become an alibi, a rumor can become a legend, and money can make almost anyone sound persuasive for one more night.
That is Chicago in this album: glamorous, restless, criminal, sentimental, funny, and still swinging long after respectability has gone to bed.
